With seven years of experience behind her, actress Bhumika Gurung is best known for playing the titular character (Nimki) in Nimki Mukhiya. However, she says that she had not ever intended on getting into this line of work. Self-described as a simple, uncomplicated person from a middle-class family, she says that her becoming an actress happened because of her brother, the right opportunities at the right time and the right kind of direction and support from her family. Her biggest inspiration? Her father, a headstrong man that she describes as going out of his way to take care of the family even through difficult times.
Once she decided what she wanted to do, she started working on herself and improving herself. While her initial days were not filled with hardship, they weren’t a walk in the park either. She says she was very choosy about her work. Now, she is comfortable with the position that she is in and ready for the industry, which is why she is able to do good work that she is content with.
Her most memorable moment from her career so far is the year she started working on Nimki Mukhiya. She mentions that she didn’t expect it to become as big as it did and that she owes everything she has to the show. It’s hardly surprising that when she received an award for it, on top of the show being wildly successful, it was a dream come true for her and her family. She says that she wasn’t even expecting a nomination, so when she did get nominated, she made sure someone from her family (her father) was there at the ceremony. When her name was announced as the winner of the Best Debut Award, it was an emotional moment for both of them.
When asked about what has helped her through her journey that other people might find helpful, she says that it’s imperative to have confidence in yourself and to have the right kind of people supporting you. This is an industry that is riddled with uncertainties and work/income might not always be regular. Therefore, if you plan to have a career in this line of work, it is important to have a good support system to emotionally support you during difficult times and to guide you. It might also be a good idea to have a Plan B, she adds. Most important is to know what you are doing and to be prepared for what you’re getting into.
Currently, she is working on a new daily show. “It has an amazing story and I, as an audience would like to see it. I am playing a different character and I am very excited for the show to air,” she says. “Looking back from where I’ve started I am absolutely and completely satisfied and content with this. This is something that I wanted to do. Although my growth was slow, I think that it was for the best. I didn’t want to grow too quickly and fade into nothing after. I got everything on time and I value everything, so I feel like I am at the right place at the right time.”
